Development Director
Position Overview (Part-time, 80%)
The Development Director serves as the primary coordinator of Heronfield Academy’s fundraising and donor relations efforts. Working closely with the Head of School, administrative team, Board Development Committee and parent volunteers, the Director manages the day-to-day operations of the school’s advancement program and supports all strategic fundraising initiatives. This is a 4/5 position (80% of full-time) with a competitive compensation package.
Key Responsibilities
Annual Fund & Campaign Leadership
- Work collaboratively with the Head of School, the Board’s Development Committee, and faculty-staff to advance the annual Heronfield Fund, leading outreach efforts to parents, grandparents, alumni, and past parents
- Prepare donor reports and fundraising updates for the Head of School, Development Committee and Board of Trustees
- Partner with the Head of School in developing fundraising appeals and donor communications
Donor Relations & Stewardship
- Maintain and update donor records in the Development Office’s online database
- Generate timely acknowledgment letters, receipts, and tax documentation, as needed
- Lead donor stewardship efforts, including thank-you calls, updates, and recognition initiatives with the Head of School
- Prepare and distribute the school’s Annual Report
Events & Community Engagement
- Lead planning efforts for fundraising and friendraising events, including the Spring Gala, launch of the Annual (Heronfield) Fund, Grandparents & Special Friends Day, alumni events and other stakeholder events
- Manage guest lists, vendor communications, auction item-tracking, sponsorships and day-of event support
- Lead efforts to secure sponsorships and in-kind donations
- Build relationships with alumni and the broader school community
Communications & Marketing Support
- Partner with school leadership and enrollment/outreach efforts to ensure consistent, mission-aligned donor communications
- Generate development-related marketing content for email, newsletters, print materials and social media
- Oversee brand consistency across donor-facing materials
Strategic & Administrative Support
- Support the work of the Board Development Committee, including regular reporting and preparation of materials
- Contribute to long-term development and strategic planning
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, non-profit management, business, or related field; Master’s degree preferred
- Substantive experience in fundraising, development, event planning, communications or administrative support
- Strong knowledge of and experience with development/fundraising software and its reporting applications
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Experience with maintaining confidentiality, respect, and discretion in all aspects of the development role
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects independently
